Port chiefs in Liverpool have been told that they have to repay a little under £9m in state aid that was given to them if they wanted to take advantage of the cruise ship jobs that they could steal from Tyneside.
Ministers decided that Liverpool can place bids to bring cruise passenger cruise reviews ships to the port and overturn strict rules governing the port, but because the facility was built using taxpayer's money they will need to repay it before they can make any commercial gain off of the dock.
