I wrote about the transfer among Kyoto, Osaka and Kobe in the previous post . There are lots of railways by Japan Railway and several private railways, such as Hankyu, Hanshin and Keihan. This means you have many many choices to choose the ticket or pass. All private railways have own pass. And also JR West has Kansai Area Pass. You may be overwhelmed to choose the right ticket.
Now I would like to share the information about the discount ticket and pass with you. I classify these tickets and passes under three types, all Kansai area, Kyoto and Osaka. I hope this post will help you to find the right one for you.
This category is suitable norwegian cruise for the tourists who visit Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe, Nara and many more places in Kansai for multiple days. I recommend you Kansai Thru Pass (Surutto Kansai Pass). And also JR West Kansai Area Pass may be considerble.
This is the most recommend one! This pass includes all major private norwegian cruise lines and subway lines, norwegian cruise such as Hankyu, Hanshin, Keihan, Kintetsu, Nankai, Osaka Subway and Kyoto Subway. You can access Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, Nara, Himeji, Mt. Koya, Kansai airport, Wakayama norwegian cruise and many more place. Please see the map in Kansai Thru Pass official site . And also one of my post, How to get Mt. Koya may be helpful for you.
This pass is sold at 5000 yen for 3 days and 3800 yen for 2 days. I am sure that it gives you the greatest value in any railway pass of Kansai area. But if you think about only round trip between Kyoto and Osaka, the regular fare may be cheaper. Let s compare the fare.
As you see, those regular fares are not so expensive. norwegian cruise So if you have round trip to Nara, Kyoto and Kobe from Osaka in 3 days, it would not pay. Of course you can use the pass for Osaka subway and Kyoto subway. You can use it for exploring in those cities. But you cannot access Universal Studio norwegian cruise Japan in Osaka. norwegian cruise You need to take JR line to get there. And Kyoto city bus is more convenient norwegian cruise to get Northern Kyoto area, such as Kinkakuji temple and Ryoanji temple. So before purchase this pass, check your itinerary and make sure how much you can use this pass. Of course you need to compare the price of Kansai Thru Pass and the single fare. Especially if you stay in Kyoto for several days, consider about Kyoto subway and bus day pass. I will explain this below.
This pass includes most of JR lines in Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Kobe, Himeji norwegian cruise and Kansai norwegian cruise airport. Shinkansen and all express trains are not included except Kansai airport express Haruka . Please see the details about this pass on JR West official norwegian cruise website norwegian cruise . And also one of my post, How to access from Kansai airport to downtown norwegian cruise Osaka, Kyoto and Kobe may be helpful norwegian cruise for you.
The price is starting from 2000 yen / 1 day, 4000 yen / 2 days, 5000 yen / 3 days and 6000 yen / 4 days. Let s compare these prices and a single fare. The single fares on major sections are the following:
If you use this pass for Haruka, norwegian cruise that is a good deal. But if you think about using this pass for sightseeing in Kyoto or Osaka, it doesn t work. Especially JR lines is not convenient in Kyoto. Please read How to use Japan Rail Pass in Kyoto to get more details. Kansai Thru Pass (Surutto Kansai Pass) or the single fare and Kyoto day pass combination are much better choice for Kyoto and Osaka sightseeing.
This is a basic day pass of Kyoto City Subway and Bus. You can go anywhere in city of Kyoto. There are two types of pass, One day at 1200 yen and Two days at 2000 yen. Please see the details at Kyoto Municipal Transportation official website . If you pay a single fare, it costs 210 to 340 yen to take the subway and 220 yen to take the bus. So if you take a bus or subway more than 5 times a day, this pass is worth the price. If you are not sure how many times you take, I recommend you to purchase this pass. It is not bad deal, more convenient and save your time to calculate the fare at the station.
This pass is very suitable for the tourists who stay in Kyoto. Because you can use this pass even short distance transfer. For example, you can take a bus to move only several blocks to get the restaurant.
This pass is very similar to the One or Two day pass above. But this pass does not include any subway lines. The price is only 500 yen for one day. If you take more than three, it would pay. Even though some of the popular spots in Kyoto, like Arashiyama, cannot be accessed by this pass, this affordable price may work for most of tourists.
norwegian cruise I recommend this pass to the tourists who have one day trip to Kyoto from Osaka. If you have Kansai Thru Pass or JR West Kansai Area Pass, this pass will cover the place where these rail passes norwegian cruise cannot cover. If you use Japan Rail pass, this pass is one of the best choice. Because you need to use subway or bus to get most of spots in Kyoto anyway. Of course you can combine this pass with a single fare from Osaka.
There are lots of subway lines in downtown Osaka. This is the best way to explore in Osaka. You can use JR lines too. Especially if you will be Japan Rail Pass user, try to use JR lines as much as you ca. Please see the post, How to use Japan Rail Pass in downtown Osaka .
This is a basic day pass of Osaka Municipal Transportation. You take any subway lines and bus service that are operated by Osaka city. The price is 800 yen. But if you use buy this pass on weekends or holidays, the price is cheaper. It is only 600 yen. If you take subway train from Umeda to Namba, the fare is 230 yen. So it is not hard to use more than even higher price 800 yen.
At last, if you may travel norwegian cruise to outside of Kansai area, like Kinosaki, Shirahama, Okayama and Kurashiki, norwegian cruise don t forget to check the post, The newest JR West rail pass for Kansai and Okayama, Kurashiki, Kinosakai norwegian cruise and Shingu area, Kansai WIDE Area Pass . In my opinion, this pass gives you the greatest deal in all JR West rail passes.
First of all, even though I don t know what time you will arrive in KIX, Rinku Town, Nara and Kyoto in one day is too much. You should go to Nara when you stay in Kyoto or Osaka. If you go to Kyoto via Rinku Town, ICOCA and Haruka is the best choice.
Based on my calculations, For my travels in Kyoto Osaka, and from Kyoto to Osaka, it will cost a total of 5920 yen. Should I get a 5-day Kansai Thru Pass + 1-day Kyoto bus card, it will cost a total of 9300 yen.
You know that you can even walk between Namba and Shinsaibashi. There is a big shopping arcade. So only when you go to Kaiyukan (aquarium), you really need to take subway. But the fare is only 270 yen one way. It depends on your plan. If you go some more places, you should buy one day pass. Otherwise single ticket is fine.
To go to Shirakawago from Nagoya, bus is faster and cheaper than JR. If you take the bus, Meitetsu Bus center (which is just next to Nagoya station) 9:00 and arrive Shikawago 11:45 and costs 3500 yen.
Thanks for the information! I am actually thinking of taking the hida wide view train because i ve heard the view along the journey is amazing. Also i d like to make a trip to takayama first drop off my backpack at the hostel before heading to shira. Is there a bus instead to taka, and allows for great scenery along the way?
Bus is also available from Nagoya to Takayama. norwegian cruise I have driven the part of this highway to Takayama before. I think the view from highway is obstructed by the number of tunnels and sound proof walls. Actually, both buses to Takayama and Shirakawago use the same highway for the most part. When I drove the ordinary road along the JR, the view was excellent.
I ve given you the information on bus, because many people prefer faster and cheaper way. However, norwegian cruise if you are looking for good view and quality travel, I think you ve made the right choice. In fact I prefer wide view hida than bus if I can afford it.
Means 2,750円 said unlimited norwegian cruise rides on the subways, new trams, buses and all trains operated by the Nankai Electric Railway for a whole day. Can I use from Wakayamashi to Namba?? (that line is Nankai line).
I am thinking to buy JR west rail pass after we arrive in Kansai on the first day but after I read your information How to Choose Discount Railway Pass, I will buy the pass on the second day I stay in Kyoto. You said that most places norwegian cruise in Kyoto only can be reach by buss. What do you suggest?
When you stay in Kyoto, using JR West Kansai pass is not a good idea. As you ve read, Kyoto city pass is better choice to explore in city of Kyoto. And if you use a bus and train many times, norwegian cruise you may consider to use Kansai Thru Pass 2 days, one day for Kyoto and another day for Nara from Kyoto. One way fare to Nara from Kyoto by JR or Kintetsu is about 700 yen. Kyoto day pass is 1200 yen. Kansai Thru Pass 2 days is 3800 yen. So it depends on how much bus you will take in Nara. I guess single fare is slightly cheaper than Kansai Thru Pass. But it is your choice.
Was considering getting a 2 Day Kansai Area Pass for Day 1 2. A 2 Day kyoto sightseeing pass and a 4 Day Kansai Wide Area Pass for Day 5 Day 8. Can you help to comment on the above plan. Is it possible to purchase 2 different JRail passes on the same trip? Thanks.
It is no problem to purchase JR West Kansai pass and Kansai Wide Area pass at same time. If you take Haruka norwegian cruise to KIX on Day 9 from Shin-Osaka, you can purchase one more Kansai Pass 1 day. But if you stay in Nanba area, Nankai norwegian cruise railway or limousine bus is better way to get KIX.
I will be goin to Japan on Sept. 2-7. On Sept 3-4 I will be going to Kyoto and on the 6th I will be visiting norwegian cruise Mt. Fuji. Do you think its cheaper if I just get a JRpass? Its my first time to go to Japan and I really want to ride the bullet train . What train should I take if Im going to Mt. Fuji from Tokyo?? Tour packages are very expensive.. Thank You Mr. Takeshi
If you have round trip between Tokyo and Osaka by Shinkansen (bullet train), Japan Rail Pass may be cheaper than single fare. It depends on how much trains do you take more than round trip. (local train in Tokyo, airport access to Kansai, norwegian cruise Haneda, Narita) Please see the following
